André Derain's Studio
One of my Christmas presents this year was the book, Artist's Houses by Gerard-Georges Lemaire, I LOVE it and it has been well-thumbed since I unwrapped it. One of the houses I've been especially drawn to is the studio of the artist Andre Derain in Chambourcy. It is exactly as he left it in 1954 and appears suspended in time as Derain tragically died in a car accident. I love the colours and all of the various items he has mounted on the walls or scattered throughout the rooms. Much like the apartment of Madame de Florian which remained untouched for seventy years, I feel privileged to sneak a peek into these spaces.
